telnet

This is a place for newbie players to come and discuss problems they are having specifically, address any issues regarding the game not covered sufficiently in the help files, and any other newbie-helpful discussion (though please do NOT discuss details of quests, subclasses included, nor tell people how to play in this thread. Those topics will be promptly removed.)

GAHH! stupid school server has decided that fiery is a "bad" site and blocked it. cant open it in telnet, cant go to the website, not even for the forum. (obviously i'm not exactly at school right now, but mostly that is where i have internet)

what to do??

i might add: i had had no trouble with the forum, hadnt been on telnet in a while...then drolon decided to play in telnet, next day i go to the same computer he was on and try to get on the forum and it's blocked. and has stayed blocked, school-wide, except one lab that has its own server. which is where i am now.

apparently there's a rule about games now. so my question is, is there a way around this?

Nope, not really. Happened at my HS too way back in the day, thanks to a few choice players... There's probably a way around it, but we never figured one out.

Could always telnet/ssh from the Bad lab to your private account on the Good lab server and then telnet from there to fiery...likewise setup some linux-eque setup at home and do the same.

You want the long version or the short version?

In a nutshell... what Tanle said.

A bit more complicated, tunneling from one system to another. ie, you open a shell to server A (eg. kreigan.sofu.net) and it automagically connects you to server B (eg. mofos.usuck.org) on the same port.

This works with just about all ports with exception to FTP. FTP will only tunnel the initial command channel and not the secondary data channel even in passive mode.

Its been awhile but I think its something like portfw or some such, check the man pages.

Alternatively, if you're stuck using a windoze variant, you can download a port forwarding or "tunnelling" program of various flavor.

For more thorough info...

www.google.com, keyword: port forward

or

ok, i realize i'm asking the wrong people. you guys are hardcore techies, so to speak, and i'm just learning html. to give an example. in other words, i have no clue what you're talking about. i'll ask around and see if i can find someone to explain it and show me. thanks tho, i will use your instructions when i find someone who can interpret them...

Was it mentioned you must have a room full of 20-30 squirrels while attempting this?

P.S. Don't forget to coat your whole body in icey-hot before the squirrels.

I can't break it down much simpler than that...

get this:

http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/solutio ... client.asp

or this:

http://www.tversoft.com/company/Han-sof ... eling.html

Install... follow the onscreen instructions... viola.

Hmmm.. as for the mutant squirrels:

Just don't go that route.

Getting on

Post by rockmonkey91 »

I may have found a fix, at my school we have the same problem so i went to this sight called babblefish.com. they have a translator and if you translate the site from spanish to english, even though it is not in spanish it puts the site in english and since the http is babblefish the computer lets you in , you should try it at your school. This is the simplest fix i have found clar.
